Starting with Research and Setup
Okay so my partner and I saw that helicopter position trending and got curious. Grabbed some big pillows from the couch and laid out a yoga mat on the bedroom floor first. Safety first, right? We figured cushions could soften any clumsy landings. Cleared all furniture – nightstands gotta go, lamp unplugged and stuffed in the closet. Tripping in the dark? No thanks.

Our First Attempt (Spoiler: It Was Wobbly)
Partner laid flat on the floor like the guides said. I straddled them facing their feet. Now, the tricky part: lifting up onto my hands and knees while they grab my hips. Felt super awkward! First try, I kinda tipped sideways cause my core wasn’t braced. We both laughed. Lesson one: you NEED strong core muscles here. Felt like a shaky push-up position for me.
Tried again, focusing hard on keeping my spine straight and not sagging. Partner got a firm grip this time, lifted their pelvis off the floor. Started moving… wow, it takes serious coordination! We moved slowly at first. Rhythm felt off – either my movement was too fast or their lift was delayed. Big realization: communication isn’t optional, it’s mandatory. “Lifting NOW,” or “Slow down!” became our mantras.
What We Learned About Safety
- Pillows are non-negotiable. Partner’s lower back needs that support when lifting. Saved us from strain.
- Knee grip matters. I kept my knees squeezed on their sides for balance. Slipping knees? Recipe for faceplant.
- Height difference = trouble. If partners are vastly different heights, alignment gets messy. We needed extra pillows under my partner.
- Stop IMMEDIATELY if it hurts. Partner felt a twinge once? We paused, adjusted, moved slower. Pushing through pain is stupid.
Final Thoughts After Trying It
It’s fun! But it ain’t beginner stuff. Felt like a core workout mixed with yoga and trying not to elbow each other. Would we do it again? Yeah, slowly. Comfort level matters way more than acrobatics. Honest talk – it’s tiring! Takes way more focus and muscle than it looks online. Skip it if anyone’s sore, dizzy, or just not feeling coordinated that day.
