Okay so I realized my guy does these little things every day that make my life easier, like making coffee before I wake up or remembering to grab my favorite snacks. And honestly? I kinda took it for granted. So I decided, no more being lazy in showing appreciation. Small daily gestures are key.

Step One: Noticing The Boring Stuff
First I paid attention to his routine for a week. Like actually watched when he’d refill my water bottle without me asking or how he always charges my dead phone. Wrote down three things he did every single day that made my life smoother. Simple crap like carrying groceries upstairs even after working 10 hours.
The Coffee Experiment
Wednesday morning I set my alarm 20 minutes early. Crept to the kitchen like a ninja and made his coffee exactly how he likes it – two sugars, splash of oat milk. Left it steaming on his desk with a sticky note saying “Your turn to be spoiled 😉” He texted me two hours later with a photo of the empty mug and “Best surprise ever.” Felt stupidly good.
Memory Tokens
Friday night I grabbed a pack of index cards. Wrote super specific thank-yous for tiny things:
- “Thanks for laughing at my trash jokes even when they’re not funny”
- “Remember when you drove 40 mins to bring me soup when I was sick? I do.”
- “Appreciate you not complaining when I steal all the blankets”
Shoved them in his work bag pockets and gym shoes throughout the week. He found the last one Sunday and just hugged me for like five minutes straight.
The Win
Biggest surprise? Once I started doing this, he mirrored it back. Random forehead kisses, surprise tacos after my shitty workday… We’re not big grand gesture people. Turns out hiding “I see you” notes in someone’s sock drawer works better than any fancy date night. Feels like we’re actually teammates now instead of just sharing a bed.
