Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with making sentences, specifically with the word “abstinence.” It’s a word I don’t use much, so I thought, why not? Let’s see what I can do with it.

First off, I grabbed my laptop and opened up a fresh document. Blank page, you know, the usual. Then, I started digging around online to see how other people use “abstinence” in a sentence. Just to get some ideas, nothing fancy.
I stumbled upon some examples like, “The program promoted sexual abstinence for young people.” Pretty straightforward, right? I also saw things like, “Abstinence from social media during work hours can increase productivity.” That one made me chuckle a bit, ’cause it’s so true!
After browsing a bit more, I realized that “abstinence” is often used when talking about not doing something, like not having sex, not drinking, or not using social media. It’s all about holding back from something.

Then, I decided to jot down some of my own sentences:
-
“After months of abstinence, he finally had a slice of cake.”
-
“Her doctor recommended abstinence from alcohol during the treatment.”
-
“They practiced abstinence until they were ready to commit.”
It was actually kind of fun! I played around with different contexts and tried to make the sentences sound natural, like something I’d actually say or write.
My thoughts
Honestly, this whole exercise made me realize how we can use words in so many different ways. I mean, “abstinence” might sound a bit formal, but when you use it in a sentence, it just becomes part of the flow. Not a big deal anymore.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this little experiment with you all. Maybe it’ll inspire you to play around with words too! It is a good way to use your free time! Trust me, I know it well.
