Okay, so this weekend I decided I wanted to try making something new for breakfast. I’ve done pancakes, I’ve done waffles, but I thought, “Why not combine them?” I’d seen some stuff online about “waffle pancakes,” so I figured, let’s give it a shot!

First, I gathered my ingredients. This was pretty standard stuff:
- Flour
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Milk
- Egg
- Melted butter
- Vanilla extract (because why not?)
I whisked together all the dry ingredients in one bowl. In another bowl, I mixed the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Then, I slowly poured the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until it was just combined. You know, you don’t want to overmix it, or your pancakes will be tough. My batter looked a bit thicker than standard pancake batter.
The Waffle Iron Experiment
Now for the fun part! I heated up my waffle iron and gave it a good spray with some cooking spray. I used my lovely square iron. I ladled some batter onto the hot iron, not quite as much as I would for a regular waffle, cause I wasn’t sure how much it would spread.
I closed the lid and waited. It took a little longer to cook than a normal waffle, maybe around 4-5 minutes, Then, I opened the lid and there it was… a waffle pancake!
It looked like a waffle, with all the little squares, but it had the slightly softer texture of a pancake. Success! I cooked up the rest of the batter, experimenting with the amount of batter per waffle and the cooking time, finally got the best waffle pancake.

I served them up with some syrup, and some fruit. The family loved them! It was a fun little twist on a classic breakfast, and it’s definitely something I’ll be making again. The best parts, it tasted good, and the whole experiment was a lot of fun!
