How I Finally Figured Out This Podcast Thing
Look, I kept seeing clips online of Conan and Jordan being weird, right? Hilarious stuff. Friends were talking about it. Wanted to listen to the whole podcast episode myself. Seemed easy. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
Step 1: The Clueless Search:
Opened my phone. Tapped the main podcast app I got pre-installed. Typed “Conan O’Brien Jordan Schlansky”. Showed me episodes alright, mostly old clips and re-runs of some other show. Nothing recent. Typed “Connan OBrien” even, cuz brain fart. Worse results.
- Tried Spotify next.
- Had the name.
- Hit play on the latest episode listed.
- Got like 30 seconds of intro.
- Then boom! “Unavailable in your region”.
Right. Big help.
Step 2: Drowning in Podcast Apps:
Decided to try other apps. Googled “podcast app”. Found a bunch. Big names, small names.
- Downloaded the first one on the list.
- Free trial? Sure, why not?
- Searched again. Found episodes.
- Tapped play… “Subscribe for premium access”. Ugh.
Deleted that app.
Step 3: Remembering Conan’s Own Thing:
Then it hit me. Conan has his own website. Maybe? Typed it into Chrome. Yeah, found it easy enough. He has a whole “Team Coco” section. Found the podcast page. Latest episode with Jordan was right there! Video and audio! Jackpot?
Clicked the little audio player icon. Nothing happened. Clicked again. Silence. Tried on my laptop. Same thing. Player showed up, looked legit, just no sound. Volume was up. Sound worked on other sites. Restarted everything. Still silent. Just me and a motionless sound wave graphic.
Step 4: The Actual Play Button Hidden in Plain Sight:
Scrolled down a bit. Got real mad. Saw a different section labeled “Episodes” or something. Way down there. Tiny font. Listed the latest ones. Found the right episode again. This time, saw a small, super basic button just saying “Listen”. No fancy player. Just the word “Listen”.
Clicked it cautiously. That button triggered a little pop-up window asking if I wanted to open the podcast in… ding ding ding! My phone’s ORIGINAL PODCAST APP! The one I checked first!
Felt like an idiot. But also hopeful.
The Grand Solution (It’s Not Grand):
Back in the original podcast app. Hit search. Typed “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend Podcast”. Boom. All the episodes showed up, clean and simple, including the latest Jordan one. Why searching “Jordan Schlansky” didn’t surface this podcast directly? No idea. Podcast search logic is garbage sometimes.
Hit “Subscribe” immediately so I wouldn’t have to search again. Episode started playing instantly. Finally heard them talking.
My Big Takeaway:
Sometimes the direct route sucks. Podcast stuff is messy. Websites can be weird. Apps fight you. Search terms gotta be exact. And sometimes the answer was sitting there in the first place you looked, hiding because you used slightly wrong words. Don’t overcomplicate it. Start super basic.
