Okay, so “revenge era gerard,” huh? It all started with a serious need for a creative outlet, y’know? Like, I was feeling kinda stuck, and I needed to shake things up.

First thing’s first, I dug through my old My Chemical Romance stuff. Found some pics of Gerard Way from, like, the Black Parade era and even earlier. That eyeliner? Iconic. The hair? Don’t even get me started. That was my jumping off point.
Next, I started sketching. Just rough stuff at first, trying to capture that angsty, kinda broken vibe. I wasn’t aiming for perfection, just the raw feeling. Used a regular old pencil and some printer paper – nothing fancy.
Then, I decided to go digital. Pulled out my tablet and fired up Krita (it’s free and works pretty darn well, so why not?). I scanned in my sketches and used them as a base. Messed around with different brushes and colors, really leaning into the darker shades – blacks, reds, purples. The usual.
Here’s where it got interesting: I started experimenting with textures. Found some free grunge textures online and layered them over the image. It added a bit of grit and made it look less…sterile, I guess.
After that, I played around with the lighting. Made sure the shadows were deep and dramatic, highlighting Gerard’s eyes and cheekbones. Gotta get that brooding look just right, ya know?

- Sketching: Pencil and paper, rough concepts
- Digital Lineart: Krita, scanned sketches as a base
- Coloring: Dark palette, reds, blacks, purples
- Textures: Grunge overlays, free downloads
- Lighting: Dramatic shadows, highlights
Finally, I tweaked the contrast and saturation until it looked just right. Added a bit of noise for that extra vintage feel. And boom! “Revenge era Gerard,” ready to unleash on the world (or, at least, my Tumblr feed).
Honestly? It was a blast. It wasn’t about making a masterpiece, it was about just letting loose and creating something cool. I learned a lot about using textures and lighting in digital art, and I definitely got my creative juices flowing again. Plus, who doesn’t love a bit of Gerard Way?
