Time for a Change
Okay, so my hair was getting kinda long, you know? Just floppy and annoying, always in my eyes. I kept seeing these guys with really sharp haircuts, the sides super short and the top a bit longer. Looked clean, easy. Decided I needed something like that. I think they call it an undercut?

Spent maybe 10 minutes scrolling through pictures on my phone. Found a few examples of a short undercut. Didn’t want anything too extreme, just neat. Saved a couple to show the barber.
Getting it Done
Went down to my usual barber shop. Showed Tony the pictures. He glanced at them, then at my mop, and just said, “Yeah, okay. Easy.” He knows my hair, I guess.
First thing, he grabbed the clippers. That buzzing sound always gets me. He went straight for the sides and back. Took it down really short, way shorter than I usually go. Felt the cold air on my scalp almost immediately. It was kinda weird but felt good, clean.
- Clippers on the sides and back first.
- Used different guard lengths, shorter at the bottom, blending up slightly.
- Then scissors on top to trim and add some texture. Left it maybe finger-length, enough to style a bit.
He didn’t talk much, just focused on cutting. Took maybe 20 minutes total. Quick and efficient.
The Look and Feel
He spun the chair around to face the mirror. Whoa. Big change. The sides were super neat, almost down to the skin near the bottom. The top had some length but looked tidy. The contrast was pretty stark.

Ran my hand over the sides. Felt buzzy, totally different. The top felt lighter too, without all the extra bulk hanging down.
It definitely looks cleaner. Less fuss in the morning, I hope. Just need a tiny bit of wax or something to give the top some shape. Took a bit to get used to seeing myself with such short sides, but yeah, I dig it. Feels practical.
So far, so good. Let’s see how it grows out, but right now, I’m happy I went for it. Needed that change.
