So, I decided to make this thing, this “fifi bag toy” the other day. Don’t ask me why, really. Sometimes you just get an idea, you know? Or maybe I was just bored. Probably bored.
Getting the Stuff Together
First thing, I had to find some materials. I wasn’t about to go out and buy anything fancy. Nah, this was a ‘use what you got’ kind of project. I rummaged through my old fabric scraps. Found a piece of felt, like the kind kids use for crafts. Bright orange. Why not? It felt sturdy enough, I guess.
Then I needed thread. Found some black thread, which was good, ’cause it would stand out against the orange. Makes it look more… intentional, even if it’s a bit messy. And a needle, of course. A big one, because my coordination isn’t always top-notch with tiny things.
The Actual Making Of It
Okay, so I started by trying to cut out two identical pieces. Emphasis on ‘trying’. I didn’t have a pattern or anything, just eyeballed it. One piece ended up a bit lopsided. I thought, “eh, good enough.” It’s a “toy,” right? Not a designer handbag.
Then came the sewing part. This is where things always get a bit dicey for me. I started stitching around the edges. My stitches were… well, let’s just say they had character. Some big, some small, definitely not straight. It looked pretty homemade, let me tell you.
I remembered I wanted to make it a ‘bag’, so I left the top open. Smart, huh? At one point, the needle slipped and I nearly poked a hole where I didn’t want one. Managed to save it. Phew.

I wanted to add a little loop or something, to make it more ‘toy-like’ or to hang it. I cut a thin strip from the leftover felt, folded it, and tried to sew it into the seam. This was fiddly. Really fiddly. My fingers felt like sausages trying to do brain surgery. But I got it in there, eventually. It’s a bit crooked, but it’s there.
The Finished… Thing
So after a bit of struggling, and maybe a few muttered words I won’t repeat, it was done. My fifi bag toy. It’s small, bright orange, with very obvious black stitching. The loop is a bit off-center.
What do I use it for? Absolutely nothing yet. It’s just sitting on my desk. It’s not the prettiest thing, that’s for sure. It’s a bit lumpy. But hey, I made it. From start to finish, all by myself with stuff I just had lying around.
Sometimes, it’s just about the process, right? Doing something with your hands. Even if the result is a bit goofy. This little orange bag is proof I did something other than stare at a screen for an hour. And that’s something, I guess. Maybe I’ll put a cool rock in it. Or a button. Who knows?
