Okay, so, let me tell you about this thing that’s been going on with my man lately. It’s been bugging me, and I just need to get it off my chest. So, here’s the deal: why is my man yelling at me? I mean, seriously, it’s like he’s got a built-in megaphone or something.
First off, I tried to just ignore it. You know, play it cool, like it’s no big deal. But, man, it’s hard when someone’s constantly raising their voice at you, it make me feel very uncomfortable. Then, I started to notice patterns. It’s usually when he’s stressed about work or when we’re out with his friends. In public, especially. It’s like he’s a totally different person, and I don’t get why he feels the need to yell to get his point across. Does he think I am deaf? I don’t know.
So, I decided to talk to him about it. I picked a time when we were both calm and just hanging out at home. I told him straight up that his yelling makes me uncomfortable and it’s not cool. I even mentioned that it feels disrespectful, especially when he does it in front of other people. I don’t want to put him down. I just want him to know that’s not cool, and I felt being disrespected.
And you know what? He actually listened. He apologized and said he didn’t realize how much it was affecting me. He explained that he gets caught up in the moment and doesn’t always think about how he’s coming across. It wasn’t an excuse, but at least it was something. I am glad that he listened, that’s a good start.
But here’s where it gets tricky. Even after our talk, he still slips up sometimes. Old habits die hard, I guess. So, I had to figure out how to deal with it in the moment. I tried staying calm and not reacting when he starts to yell. I don’t want to fight fire with fire. Sometimes I will just walk away if possible. I am not his punching bag.
I also started setting boundaries. I told him that if he yells at me, I’m not going to engage in the conversation until he can talk to me calmly. It’s like a time-out, but for adults. This has not been easy, and sometimes I just want to yell back, but I know that won’t solve anything.
And when things get really bad, I reach out to my friends or family. Just talking to someone else about it helps me feel less alone and reminds me that I’m not crazy for feeling this way. If things get worse, I might even consider talking to a professional. I love him, but not enough to put myself in danger.
Here’s what I’ve learned through all of this: yelling is never okay. It’s a red flag, and it’s a sign that something’s not right in the relationship. It took a lot of patience and communication, but I think we’re finally starting to make some progress. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than it was before. It’s a long way to go. But I think it’s worth it. At least for now.
