Well, this thing about whether God loves gay people, it’s been going around for a long time. Folks always been askin’, “Does God love people who are gay?” And I reckon it’s a question that don’t always get a simple answer, especially when you start bringin’ up the Bible and what folks say about it. Now, I’m just an old woman, but I got my thoughts on the matter, and I figure it’s worth a talk. You see, a lotta people like to talk about what God likes and don’t like, and there’s all sorts of verses in the Bible they use to back up their points. But the truth is, we’re all just folks here, and when you really get down to it, God’s love is bigger than what people say it is.
Now, first thing, we all know the Bible talks about love. I reckon if you look in the right spots, you’ll see it’s all about love. God’s love. Jesus talked about it plenty, didn’t He? He said, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31), and He didn’t say anything about who that neighbor gotta be, did He? So that right there tells me, no matter who someone loves, they’re still a neighbor. God’s love is big enough for all of us.
Some folks, they like to quote verses about sin and such. I ain’t sayin’ sin ain’t real, ’cause we all know we make mistakes. But here’s the thing: God’s love don’t just depend on whether you make mistakes or not. In fact, God’s love is bigger than any mistake we might make. He’s forgiving, and He wants us to love each other, too. It says in the Bible that “God is love” (1 John 4:8), and that’s the main thing to remember. God loves all His children, plain and simple. Now, I reckon there’s people who say God don’t love gay folks, but I don’t think that’s right. He loves us all, no matter what.
Some people point to parts in the Bible where it talks about how certain things are sins, and I can see where they’re comin’ from. But just because something’s talked about in the Bible don’t mean it’s the final say on the matter. You gotta look at the whole picture. The Bible’s got a lot of different messages in it, and one of the main ones is that God’s love is bigger than any rules or laws we might try to follow. Now, I ain’t sayin’ go out and break all the rules, but I am sayin’ that God sees us all, and He knows what’s in our hearts.
And you know, folks talk about how some churches accept gay people, and others don’t. But I always say, church is about love. It ain’t about judging folks or deciding who can come in and who can’t. Some of them mainline Protestant churches, like the United Church of Christ, they say they accept gay people, and that sounds right to me. After all, we’re all God’s children, right? Who are we to say who gets His love and who don’t?
Some people argue that God don’t love gay folks ’cause of some verses in the Bible. They point to verses like the ones in Leviticus or Romans, but I think folks sometimes get too caught up in the letter of the law and forget about the spirit of the law. God gave us these teachings to guide us, but He also gave us a heart, and that heart should lead us to love one another. Jesus Himself didn’t spend His time pointing fingers at people who messed up. He spent His time loving ’em, helping ’em, and showing ’em God’s grace. If Jesus was about anything, He was about love.
I’ve also heard folks say that being gay is a choice, but I don’t think it’s that simple. Folks are born the way they are, and that includes who they love. Ain’t nobody’s business who another person loves, as long as they’re doing right by each other. And if God made people, He made them whole. He made ‘em perfect in His own image, and He don’t make no mistakes. So, I reckon if someone loves another person, no matter who they are, that love is something God made and something He can bless.
Now, I know some people will say I’m wrong, but I think God’s love is for everyone, no matter what. He loves us all, and He don’t leave no one out. So, I’d say, does God love gay people? You bet He does. He loves everyone. That’s the beauty of it. No one is outside the reach of His love.
So, to wrap it all up, if you’re askin’ whether God loves gay folks, I’d say yes. God’s love is wide and big and open, and He ain’t just pickin’ and choosin’ who gets it. His love is for everyone—gay or straight, sinner or saint. And I reckon that’s what really matters in the end. We should all try to love like that, too. It ain’t for us to judge who’s worthy of love. That’s God’s job, and He already made His decision. He loves us all.
