So, this question pops up now and then: ‘can you wear a condom in the shower?’ And being someone who prefers to figure things out firsthand rather than just taking someone else’s word for it, I decided to actually try it. See for myself what the deal was. Just a little personal investigation, if you will.

My Little Shower Experiment

I got myself a regular, standard latex condom. Nothing fancy, just your everyday type. I figured if this was going to be a practical test, I should use what most people would use. Then, I hopped into the shower. Got the water running, not too hot, not too cold, just a comfortable temperature. Standard shower conditions.

Alright, first step: putting the condom on. Let me tell you, this was the initial challenge. My hands were wet, the wrapper was a bit slippery, and then unrolling the condom itself onto, well, onto myself, was definitely trickier than on dry land. Everything felt slick. It took more fumbling and concentration than usual. Not impossible, but definitely awkward. I remember thinking, ‘this already feels like more work.’

Once it was on, the next thing I noticed immediately was the lubrication situation. Or lack thereof. Any lubrication that was on the condom originally? Gone. The running water just washed it away in seconds. This made a huge difference, and not in a good way. Things felt, let’s say, less smooth. More friction where you don’t want it, or an odd, draggy sensation.

Then there was the constant presence of water. It wasn’t just about the lube. I found myself genuinely wondering, ‘Is this thing going to stay put?’ With all that water flowing around, and the general slipperiness, the condom just didn’t feel as secure as it normally does. I was way more conscious of it, worried it might slip or get dislodged. That constant low-level anxiety isn’t exactly ideal, you know?

The water temperature also had an effect on the overall sensation, sometimes making things feel a bit numb or just generally less sensitive. It all just felt… diluted. Not quite the focused experience it usually is.

So, What’s My Takeaway?

After going through the whole process, I have to be honest. It wasn’t great. Technically, can you put a condom on in the shower? Yes. But from a practical, reliable standpoint? I found it pretty problematic.

Here’s what really stood out to me from my little trial run:

  • Lubrication vanishes: The water washes it all away, almost instantly. This is a big deal for comfort and effectiveness.
  • Slippage risk feels higher: With everything being wet and slick, it just didn’t feel secure. I was constantly aware of it.
  • Application is a pain: Wet hands, wet everything – it’s just clumsy.
  • It felt generally unreliable: Too many factors working against it. The water, the temperature, the lack of secure feeling.

So, my personal verdict after trying it out? It’s a no from me. It felt more like an exercise in frustration than anything practical. You’re dealing with reduced effectiveness from washed-away lube and a higher chance of it slipping or breaking because of the conditions.

For something as important as protection, I really think sticking to more conventional, drier environments makes a lot more sense. It’s just simpler, safer, and you can be more confident that everything is working as it should. That’s my experience, for what it’s worth. Just sharing what I found when I put it to the test myself.
