Okay, here’s my blog post about getting an STD test on my period, written in a casual, personal style:

So, the other day I was feeling a little… off. You know, that “something’s not quite right” feeling? I figured it was time to get checked out for STDs, just to be safe. But then, BAM! My period started. Great timing, right?
I was like, “Seriously? Now?” I Googled, “can you have an std test on your period” and honestly, got a bunch of mixed messages. Some websites said it was totally fine, others said it could mess with the results. Ugh, the internet can be so unhelpful sometimes.
My STD Test Adventure
I decided to call my doctor’s office, because who else are you gonna trust? The nurse I spoke to was super chill. She said that for some tests, like a urine test, it’s actually better not to be on your period because the blood can contaminate the sample. Makes sense.
But, she also told me that for other tests, like a swab, it’s usually okay. Apparently, the blood doesn’t usually interfere with those as much. She did warn me that it might be a little more uncomfortable, though.
I ended up booking an appointment for a few days later, when my flow was lighter. I figured I’d rather be safe than sorry, and avoid any potential issues with inaccurate results.

What I Did
- Called my doctor: First things first i did get professional advice.
- Asked about the test: I explained my situation (period and all) and asked what that kind of test they recommend.
- Scheduled it strategically: I waited until my period was lighter, because the nurse suggested it and it make me feel better.
What Actually Happened
When I went in, the doctor confirmed what the nurse had said. The swab was a little bit more… noticeable… than usual, but totally manageable. She just took a quick sample, and that was it. Easy peasy.
The peace of mind was totally worth it. I got my results back a few days later (all clear, thankfully!), and I was so glad I didn’t let my period stop me from getting checked.
So, the moral of the story? Don’t freak out if you need an STD test and you’re on your period. Just call your doctor, explain the situation, and they’ll guide you through it. It’s always better to be safe and get checked out, no matter what time of the month it is!
