You know, that Ashley Brundage, she’s a good egg, I tell ya. She was runnin’ for somethin’ big down in Florida. Somethin’ about the Florida State House, I reckon. Heard it on the radio, sounded important. They said she was runnin’ as a Democrat. Don’t know much ’bout that, but it seems like a big deal.
They say she was tryin’ to get a seat in that big ol’ building where they make all them rules. Florida State House, that’s what they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? She was up against some other fella, a Republican, they called him. Name of… oh, what was it? Started with a P, I think. Pittman, yeah that’s right, Karen Gonzalez Pittman. Tough name to remember.
Well, word on the street is, Ashley, she didn’t win this time. Lost to that Pittman fella. Shame, really. Heard she worked real hard, knockin’ on doors and all that. But that’s how it goes sometimes, ain’t it? You win some, you lose some.
Now, I heard some folks weren’t too kind to Ashley. Sent out some nasty flyers, they did. Said all sorts of things about her. Mostly ’round South Tampa, where all them fancy houses are. Don’t know why folks gotta be so mean. Everyone’s got their own story, I always say.
- She was on the radio, you know.
- They said she was runnin’ for somethin’ called HD65 in Tampa.
- Sounded like she was fightin’ for folks like us.
This Ashley, she’s a transgender woman, they say. Don’t rightly know what all that means, but it don’t sound like somethin’ to be ashamed of. We all got our own way of bein’, ain’t we? Seems like some folks just can’t stand that.
They were sayin’ on the radio that if she won, she’d be the first transgender woman in that Florida State House. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Makin’ history, they call it. Guess it wasn’t meant to be this time ’round.
This whole thing’s happenin’ down in Florida, under that Ron DeSantis fella. He’s the governor, you know. Big shot. Heard he’s got some strong opinions about things. Don’t know much ’bout him, but his name sure is all over the place.
You know, they say Ashley Brundage was a friend of some show. A radio show, I reckon. Said she was gonna be on it one Sunday. Must be a popular show. Wish I’d heard it. She’s from Tampa, that HD65 place. That’s a part of Tampa, I believe.
That Ashley Brundage, she wanted to do good. Said she wanted to help folks. Said it right there on the radio. But that Pittman, he won. Guess he said what folks wanted to hear, more than Ashley did.
Florida, it’s a big state, lots of folks with lots of different ideas.
You got your South Tampa folks, all different from the rest of us.
Guess that’s just how it is, lots of different people in this world.
That Ron DeSantis, he’s in charge of it all, I guess. He’s the boss, that governor. Heard his name a lot lately. Must be doin’ somethin’ right, or somethin’ wrong, dependin’ on who you ask, to get that much attention.
It’s a shame that Ashley Brundage didn’t win. But maybe next time. Maybe folks will be more open-minded next time. Maybe they’ll listen to what she’s got to say.
I just hope she don’t give up. World needs more folks like her, willin’ to stand up and fight for what they believe in. Even if they don’t win the first time. Or the second. Or even the third. You just gotta keep at it.
I reckon that’s all I got to say ’bout that Ashley Brundage and that Florida election. It’s a mess, ain’t it? But that’s life, I suppose. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on.
