So I kept seeing this anime mating press thing popping up lately. Didn’t know what it was but curiosity got the best of me, you know how it goes.
My First Encounter
Clicked on a random forum thread late one night after work. Folks were arguing about fight scenes versus… something else entirely. Saw the term dropped casually like everybody should know it. Felt totally out of the loop. Figured it was some new martial arts move at first. Yeah, I was dead wrong.
Digging Deeper
Started poking around different sites the next evening. Felt awkward searching this stuff with my wife reading next to me on the couch. Pretended to be checking sports highlights. Found some scattered discussions with vague descriptions:
- “It’s always the aggressive characters”
- “You see it tagged a lot but they never show it fully”
- “More common in doujinshi than actual anime”
Realized pretty quick it wasn’t about fighting. More like… a specific position? Kept running into coded language and nonsense terms.
The Lightbulb Moment
Finally stumbled into an old 4chan archive (big mistake). Scrolled past so much garbage. Then boom – somebody actually spelled it out plain. Felt my face go hot. Closed the laptop immediately. Had that “ohhhh that’s why nobody explains it properly” shock. All those vague forum comments suddenly made sense.
Putting it All Together
Tried writing down what I learned without being gross about it. Took three tries:
- First draft sounded like a medical textbook – deleted.
- Second draft went too far the other way – also deleted.
- Third time just focused on where it shows up:
fan comics way more than official anime, certain character types, never fully animated for obvious reasons.
Highlighted how weird the search experience was – all that creeping around dodgy forums feeling like some weirdo.
People Noticed
Posted it thinking maybe five people would care. Wrong. First hour got more comments than my last ten posts combined. Split right down the middle:
- “Finally someone said it!” type folks relieved it’s explained normally
- “Why would you write this?!” outrage comments
Got some genuinely weird DMs asking for “examples.” Blocked like crazy. Almost took the post down twice. But hey – nobody explained it cleanly before, so guess it filled a gap.
