Okay, so I got the Nexplanon inserted a while back, and I thought I’d share my experience with the first period after that. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, to be honest.

First off, I got the implant put in, and they told me it starts working in about 7 days. And they also told me if I had it put in within 5 days of the first day of my period, it would be effective within 3 days. But to be safe, I used backup contraception for a full 14 days after. I figured better safe than sorry, you know?

Now, about that first period… It was definitely heavier than what I was used to. The bleeding days were also more. It felt like it lasted forever! There was a lot of spotting and light bleeding in between, too. It wasn’t exactly fun, but I managed.

What I experienced

  • Heavier flow: Yeah, it was no joke. I went through way more pads than usual.
  • Longer duration: My period seemed to drag on for days longer than it used to.
  • Spotting: I had some random spotting and light bleeding even when my period wasn’t technically happening.

I did think about taking plan B because I was a little nervous, but then I reminded myself that I followed all instructions. It seems that after getting the implant out, it might take a while for periods to get back to normal. Some people are lucky and it’s quick, but for most it takes time.

It took a few weeks for things to settle down, but eventually, my period did go back to a more normal pattern. It wasn’t exactly the same as before, but it was manageable. It’s different for everyone, though. I’ve heard from some women that their periods stayed heavier than normal after Nexplanon.

So, that’s my story about my first period after getting Nexplanon. It wasn’t the smoothest ride, but I got through it. If you’re thinking about getting it, just be prepared for some potential changes in your period, and give your body time to adjust. It’s all part of the process!
