Okay, so I was scrolling through my phone the other day, and I saw this thing about “The Voice,” you know, that singing show? And there was this guy, Asher HaVon, who won the whole thing. Now, the headline that caught my eye was something like, “Is Asher HaVon on The Voice trans in real life?” I was like, what? Really?
So, I started digging. It turns out, yeah, Asher is the first openly LGBTQ+ person to win the show in 25 seasons. Can you believe it? 25 seasons! He’s 31, a gospel singer from Selma, Alabama. Seems like a nice guy, great voice, all that. Apparently, he just recently came out, too. He mentioned that he hadn’t sung for two and a half years before joining the show.
And get this, his birthday is October 17th, 1991. He was 32 years old when he won. What a surprise!
His coach on the show was Reba McEntire. You know, the country singer? It was her first win as a coach, too. I thought that was pretty cool, both of them making history.
Here is what I did:
- First, I watched a bunch of his performances on the show. This dude can SING. Like, seriously, I got chills.
- Then I went down the rabbit hole of articles and interviews. I wanted to know his story, you know?
- I checked out his social media. You can tell a lot about a person from their online presence, right?
Honestly, whether he’s trans or not doesn’t really change much for me. His voice is incredible, and his story is inspiring. It’s awesome that he won, and it’s a big deal for the LGBTQ+ community. I just thought it was an interesting story and wanted to share my little deep dive with y’all. I will keep following his career. What a fantastic singer!
