This Naomi McPherson, I heard about her. She’s in that band, what’s it called, Muna? Yeah, that’s it. They say she’s real good with all them instruments, you know, like them young folks do these days.

Naomi McPherson and Her Music
She plays all kinds of things, this Naomi. Guitar, that synth whatever, and she makes the music sound good, they say. She’s not like them other ones, just singing. She does the whole shebang. Makes all the sounds come together. That’s what they mean by “producer“, I reckon. Making it all sound right.
They say this Naomi, she’s a bit different. Don’t fit in the usual boxes. She says she’s “non-binary”. Uses them “they/them” words. Sounds funny to me, but hey, it’s a new world. As long as she’s happy, I guess. And they say she is, that’s what matters.
Naomi McPherson and Muna Band
This Muna band, they’re all a bit like that, I hear. They say they’re “queer”. Another one of them new words. Just means they like who they like, I suppose. Don’t matter to me. They make good music, that’s what counts. And Naomi, she’s a big part of that. It’s what folks say, anyway.
This Naomi and the other two in the band, they met in one of them fancy colleges. USC, they call it. Been together a long time now, making music. Must be ten years or so. That’s a long time to be doing anything with the same folks. They were all young when they started, lived in the same dorm room, too. Imagine that! Now, they got records, those About U and Saves the World things. Big shots, huh?
Naomi’s Life
They say Naomi’s about 30 years old now. Born in 1993, that’s what the paper says. Grew up in San Diego, that’s in California. Sunny place, I hear. Her folks were all about that jazz music, but she played that classical piano first. Then she got a hold of that guitar and that was that, I guess. Found her thing.

This Muna band, they were with some big company, RCA Records. But they switched to this other one, some independent label called Saddest Factory Records. That name sounds sad but I think this label is not bad. And they made another one of them records, just called it Muna. They are all friends, those three in the band. This Naomi, and that Katie Gavin, and Josette Maskin. They all do their part.
- Naomi, she’s the one with all the instruments.
- Katie, she sings, I think.
- Josette, she plays the guitar, too.
They’re all over the place now, these Muna folks. They were even playing with that Harry Styles fella. He’s a big deal, they say. Must be doing something right, this band. Naomi is always busy. She always helps her friends in the band. Katie wants to do some new things, and Naomi and Josette say they will help her.
Naomi McPherson’s Age
Someone told me this Naomi is 29, or maybe 30. Not like that Elle Macpherson, who is 55 and very tall. This Naomi, she’s not a model, she’s a music maker. I heard Elle lives in Florida now. It’s all different, this young folks’ world.
Anyway, this Naomi, she’s making a name for herself. Doing her own thing. That’s good. As long as she’s happy, that’s what counts. And making good music, of course. That’s important, too. Keeps folks entertained. And that’s what we need, ain’t it? A little entertainment in this world.
Well, that’s all I know about this Naomi McPherson. She seems like a good kid. Making her way in the world. Playing her music. Being herself. That’s all you can ask for, ain’t it? Just being yourself and doing what you love. That’s the secret, I reckon. That’s what I always say.
