So yeah payment plans huh
Man that sucked finding out how much it really costs. Big sticker shock moment. Started freaking out a little honestly. Needed to sort this money mess quick.

First thing I did? Started asking around. Texted a couple friends who I thought might know stuff, but nah, they were just as clueless as me. Was kinda hoping for an easy answer, but life’s never that simple, right?
So I dove deep online. Like, really deep. Typed all kinda things into the search bar – “help paying abortion,” “affordable clinics,” “payment plans abortion.” Tons of places popped up, but man, most just talked about help, didn’t actually say how to get it. Super frustrating.
Then I started clicking into clinic websites directly, like the ones near me or ones people mentioned online. Buried deep in the “Finances” or “Patient Info” sections, that’s where the good stuff was hiding. Found out many clinics actually have people whose whole job is helping you figure out the money part! They call them Patient Navigators or Financial Counselors. Why don’t they advertise that louder?
Here’s what clicked for me after digging and actually calling a few places:
- Discounts for being broke: Seriously, many clinics charge less if you don’t make much money. Gotta ask them directly. They want proof, obviously, like pay stubs or a tax return. But it can slash the price big time.
- Breaking payments up: This was the key thing I learned – some clinics (not all!) let you split the cost. Like, pay some money upfront, then the rest later. How much later? Depends. Could be a month, could be a couple of months. Depends totally on the clinic and how broke you are. Gotta talk to them.
- Help from nonprofits: These groups literally exist to send money straight to the clinic for people who need help. But guess what? They fill up FAST. Like, blink and you miss it fast. And they have rules – usually based on how much you make and how far along you are. My take? Apply to as many as possible the second you know you need help.
- Other random options: Some clinics work with banks that offer loans? Sounded scary to me. Saw some groups that do fundraising, but like, sharing my situation publicly? Hard pass. Also, WATCH OUT for scams. Some places look helpful but just want your info or cash. If they pressure you or ask for payment directly to them instead of the clinic, run.
Biggest lesson? Call the clinics you’re considering ASAP. Just ring them up. Way easier than guessing online. Be straight up: “Hey, I need this procedure but money is super tight. What options do you have? Do you do payment plans? Know any funds?” Seriously, the person on the other end talks about this stuff all day. They know things websites don’t say.

It felt like hunting for treasure nobody wants to talk about. Annoying as heck, but figuring out that clinics themselves and those special funds are the best starting points? That was the win.
