Okay so yesterday I got this wild urge to send my ex-boyfriend some inspiring quotes. Why? Honestly, felt like screaming into a void after stalking his Instagram story where he looked suspiciously happy with his new hiking boots. Ugh.

The Spark
Saw a Pinterest pin titled “Healing Words for Heartbreak” while doom-scrolling at 3AM. Immediately grabbed my journal and started scribbling down stuff I wanted to say. Mostly angry scribbles first like “Hope your coffee’s cold forever” – but nah, decided to actually try being the bigger person.
Digging for Gold
Fell down a Google rabbit hole searching “positive breakup quotes” and “uplifting messages to ex”. Found tons of cringe poetry, but grabbed three solid ones that didn’t make me gag:
- “Hope your next chapter treats you kinder than you treated our last one.”
- “Rooting for your happiness from a very, very far distance.”
- “Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
Edited them on my Notes app for an hour – kept deleting things that sounded too bitter or desperate. Wanted it short like a band-aid rip.
Sweaty Fingers Time
Copied the final version into a text bubble around noon. My thumb hovered over send for like 15 minutes. Chugged cold brew for courage, muttered “screw it,” and hit send. Immediately threw my phone across the couch like it was on fire.
What I Actually Sent:

“Hey. Stumbled on these & thought of you:
1. Every ending plants seeds for new beginnings.
2. Wishing you authentic happiness ahead.
3. Thanks for the lessons – carrying them forward.
Take care.”

The Aftermath
Phone blew up 30 mins later – from my mom asking about dinner plans. Ex? Radio silence. Checked “Last Seen” on WhatsApp compulsively for two hours. Felt stupid. Then realized: I did this for MY closure, not his reaction. Blocked his number before bed and slept like a brick.
Final thoughts? Felt less like a Hallmark card and more like pulling emotional shrapnel out with tweezers. Do I recommend it? Only if you’re ready to send those words into the abyss without expecting jack squat back. But damn, deleting his contact felt sweeter than sending the text.
