Okay, so check it out, I finally got rid of that beat-up ’98 Civic I was driving. Thing was a total death trap, but it was mine, ya know?

First, I tried to sell it outright. Slapped an ad online, “Runs… okay. Needs some TLC.” Got a few bites, mostly lowball offers. People offering like $300 bucks. Seriously? I figured I could get more than that for scrap.
Next, I thought about parting it out myself. I even watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to remove a catalytic converter. Seemed easy enough, right? Wrong! Those things are welded on tighter than a drum. Gave up on that idea pretty quick. Didn’t wanna spend all day under the car for maybe 50 bucks.
So, I started calling around to junkyards. Some were straight-up rude. One guy literally laughed when I told him the make and model. But then I found this place a little outside of town, “Cash for Clunkers,” or something like that. The lady on the phone was actually nice! Said they’d give me a quote over the phone if I could describe the car’s condition.
I told her the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Dented fender, cracked windshield, engine light always on, smelled vaguely of mildew. She asked if it still ran, and I said, “Yeah, but you wouldn’t wanna drive it cross-country.” She chuckled and gave me a quote of $600! I was stoked! Way more than I was expecting.
The best part? They offered free towing! I didn’t even have to worry about getting it there. Scheduled the pickup for the next day. The tow truck guy showed up right on time, hooked it up, gave me the cash, and off it went. Just like that, my crappy car was gone.

Honestly, I kinda miss it. It was a piece of junk, but it got me from point A to point B. Still, $600 is $600. That’s going straight into my “new car” fund. Maybe I’ll even treat myself to some new tires this time around!
