My Go at the ‘Head in Lap’ Thing Today
Alright, so I decided to try that ‘head in lap’ position today. Been feeling a bit scattered, you know? Like my brain’s running a marathon without me. Needed something to just… stop the noise for a bit. Didn’t plan it, just felt the urge.

First off, I found a quiet spot. Ended up just sitting on the floor, leaning back against the sofa. Comfy enough. The main thing was just getting comfortable, right? No point forcing it.
So, I settled in. Then, I just leaned forward, resting my forehead kinda loosely in my own lap, between my knees sort of. Didn’t push down hard, just let the weight naturally rest there. My hands ended up just resting lightly on my ankles. Felt a bit weird at first, honestly. Like, what am I even doing?
Getting into it…
Closed my eyes. Started focusing on my breathing. Inhale, exhale. Simple stuff. The contact point, my forehead against my legs, that became the focus. It felt… grounding? Yeah, that’s the word. Like an anchor stopping me from floating away.
- My mind definitely wandered. Started thinking about emails, what’s for dinner, all that usual junk.
- Had to keep gently pulling my focus back. Back to the breath, back to the feeling of my head resting there.
- It wasn’t about forcing thoughts out, more like just noticing them and letting them drift by without grabbing onto them.
Stayed like that for maybe… ten minutes? Didn’t time it exactly. Just stayed until I felt a sort of quietness settle in. My neck felt surprisingly relaxed afterwards, maybe from not having to hold my head up straight for a bit.

Wrapping Up
When I slowly sat back up, things felt calmer. Less buzzing in my head. It’s such a simple action, really. Just tucking yourself in for a few moments. Nothing fancy, no special equipment needed. Just me, the floor, and a bit of quiet positioning.
It’s definitely something I’ll try again when things get hectic. Easy to do, quick, and seemed to actually help ground me. Good tool to have in the box, I reckon.
