So, I got this craving the other day. You know how sometimes you just want something specific? Yeah, I wanted Oreo flavor in my morning coffee, but like, properly infused, not just dunking a cookie in. The store-bought stuff never quite hits the spot for me, tastes kinda artificial sometimes. Figured I’d try making my own Oreo coffee creamer. Seemed straightforward enough.
First thing, raided the pantry. Grabbed a sleeve of Oreos – the classic ones, obviously. Didn’t count ’em, just took what looked like a good amount. Then got out the milk, some heavy cream because why not make it rich, right? And sugar, plus a splash of vanilla extract I had lying around.
The fun part was dealing with the Oreos. I thought about scraping the cream out, but nah, too much work. Decided to just go all in. Put the whole cookies into a plastic bag, sealed it up, and went at it with a rolling pin. Really smashed ’em up good, aiming for mostly fine crumbs but leaving a few slightly bigger bits for character. Made a bit of noise, hope the neighbours didn’t mind.
Next, I poured maybe two cups of milk and about a cup of cream into a saucepan. Put it on the stove, medium-low heat. Didn’t want it to boil, just get nice and warm. Stirred in a few spoonfuls of sugar – didn’t measure exactly, just tasted it until it seemed sweet enough – and then added that splash of vanilla.
Once the milk mixture was warm and steamy, I dumped the Oreo crumb chaos right into the pot. Gave it a good stir to get everything mixed together. The whole thing turned that familiar greyish-black color instantly. Looked kinda weird, gotta be honest. I turned the heat down to low, covered the pot, and just let it steep for about 15-20 minutes. Wanted all that cookie goodness to really melt into the liquid.
Now, the messy bit. I knew I didn’t want loads of sludge in my coffee, so straining was necessary. Grabbed a fine-mesh sieve, put it over a bowl, and carefully poured the warm mixture through it. It took a while, and I had to gently press down on the solids with the back of a spoon to get all the liquid out. Ended up with a bowl of surprisingly smooth, dark grey creamer and a sieve full of soggy Oreo mush. Kinda felt bad throwing the mush out, maybe I could’ve baked it into something?

Let the strained creamer cool down on the counter for a bit, then poured it into a clean glass bottle I had saved. Stuck it in the fridge overnight to chill completely.
The moment of truth came the next morning. Made my usual cup of coffee. Opened the fridge, gave the Oreo creamer bottle a good shake – some fine sediment had settled, which is normal. Poured a decent amount into my mug. It mixed in nicely, turning my coffee a pleasant light brown with tiny dark flecks. Took a sip. Wow, okay. It actually tasted like Oreos! Creamy, sweet, with that distinct chocolate cookie and cream flavor. Not overpowering, just a really nice hint of it.
Overall, pretty successful experiment! It was definitely better than the store stuff. Took a bit of effort, especially the straining part, but worth it I reckon. Might play around with the sugar next time, maybe use less. Or even try leaving some of the finer crumbs in for a bit more texture? Definitely doing this again though.
