Alright, so today I wanna share my experience with something I called “wig split”. Sounds kinda weird, right? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like – splitting a wig. Let me walk you through how I did it.
So, it all started when my old wig was kinda falling apart. I was like, “Man, I need a new one,” but I was also super broke. Then, I had this crazy idea: “Why not just split my current wig into two smaller pieces and make two new ones?” Seemed crazy, but hey, I was desperate.
First thing I did was grabbed my wig and put it on a mannequin head. This is super important, ’cause you gotta see how it sits and where you wanna make the cut. I marked the middle of the wig with a fabric marker. I wanted to split it right down the center, making two equal halves.
Next up, the scary part: cutting. I got my sharpest scissors and carefully started cutting along the line I marked. I went slow, like REALLY slow. I didn’t want to mess this up. Imagine accidentally chopping off half the wig. Nightmare fuel, right?
Once I had two separate halves, I cleaned up the edges. There were a lot of stray hairs and uneven bits. I trimmed them up so each piece looked neat and tidy. This took a while, but it was worth it.
Now came the fun part: reconstructing. I had to figure out how to turn these halves into wearable wigs. I decided to use some wig caps I had lying around. I stretched each wig half over a cap and started sewing. Yup, sewing. I’m no pro sewer, but I managed to stitch the hair onto the cap securely. Took me forever, stabbing myself with the needle more times than I’d like to admit.
After what felt like a lifetime of sewing, I had two kinda-sorta-wearable wigs. They weren’t perfect, mind you. A little lopsided, a few bald spots, but hey, they were something! I styled them up a bit, added some hairspray, and tried them on.
Honestly? One looked kinda decent. The other one was a disaster. But hey, one out of two ain’t bad, right? It was a super messy process, and I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, but if you’re ever in a pinch, splitting a wig is a surprisingly viable option. Just be prepared for a lot of trial and error… and maybe a few bald spots.
