Okay, so the other day I was thinking about what I really like and hate about school. It’s a mixed bag, you know? I decided to jot down some thoughts and do a little experiment to see if I could make my school experience better.

First off, I grabbed a notebook and started listing things out. On one side, I wrote down everything I loved, and on the other, everything that drove me nuts. For the things I like, seeing my friends every day was a big one. We always have a blast, whether we’re just chilling in the cafeteria or working on some project together. And yeah, I actually enjoy learning new stuff, especially when the teacher makes it interesting. It’s pretty cool to get those “aha!” moments when something finally clicks. I also use some apps to help me study. I found some apps and websites that are pretty helpful, like Quizlet and Bingel.
Then there’s the stuff I hate. Waking up early is the absolute worst. I mean, who decided that school should start before the sun is even up? Also, the homework load can be insane sometimes. I swear, some teachers think we don’t have a life outside of school. And don’t even get me started on those standardized tests. They just stress everyone out, and I’m not even sure they really show what we know, and the slot where I had to put my homework and test papers is really annoying.
After I made my lists, I thought, “Why not try to change things up a bit?” I started small. For the early mornings, I tried going to bed a little earlier. It wasn’t easy, but I found that even 30 extra minutes of sleep made a difference. Then, I started using my weekends to get ahead on homework, so I wouldn’t be swamped during the week. It’s not perfect, but it helps.
Things I like about school:
- Hanging out with friends – Makes every day better.
- Learning new things – Especially when it’s actually interesting.
- Fun teachers – They make classes way more enjoyable.
Things I hate about school:
- Early mornings – Seriously, it should be illegal.
- Too much homework – It’s like they want us to have no free time.
- Standardized tests – So much stress for something that doesn’t even matter that much.
- The slot for homework – It is inconvenient.
So, yeah, that’s what I did. It’s not like I completely transformed my school life, but making a few changes has made things a bit more bearable. I guess the point is, even if you can’t change everything, you can still find ways to make your situation a little bit better. And hey, at least I get to see my friends every day. That makes up for a lot of the bad stuff. School’s not all bad, but it’s definitely not all good either. It’s just…school.
