Okay, let’s talk about this whole “monster under the bed” thing. My kid, like many others, started getting freaked out about monsters hiding in the room at night. It’s a classic, right? So, I had to get creative to deal with this.

First off, I tried to pay more attention to what my little one was watching and reading. Kids soak up everything, and some books or shows can really stir up their imaginations in not-so-great ways. I also started to ask him a bunch of questions like, “What do you think the monster looks like?” or “Why do you think it’s under your bed?” Just getting him to talk about it seemed to help a bit.
But the real game-changer was this “Monster Spray” idea. I grabbed a big spray bottle, the kind you use for plants, and filled it with water. Then I added a few drops of lavender oil because that stuff is supposed to be calming. Slapped a “Monster Spray” label on it, and told my kid that this was a special potion to keep the monsters away.
- Step 1: Find a spray bottle.
- Step 2: Fill with water.
- Step 3: Add lavender oil.
- Step 4: Make a cool “Monster Spray” label.
- Step 5: Tell kid it’s magic monster repellent.
The plan was simple. Whenever he felt scared or thought he saw something, he could spray it around the bed. I also made sure he had a nightlight, his favorite stuffed animal, and we started listening to some chill music before bed. Sometimes, we’d do a bit of deep breathing after reading a bedtime story, just to get him relaxed.
I also spent some time validating his feelings. You know, letting him know it’s totally normal to be scared and that lots of kids go through this. We even looked at some books and shows that made monsters seem less scary and more like just make-believe creatures. We made a list of his concerns, and talked about each one.
The Results
And guess what? It actually worked! He started sleeping better, and the whole monster fear started to fade away. Now, he’s all good with his “Monster Spray” and his bedtime routine. He used it every night for a couple of weeks. He still keeps it by his bed, even though he doesn’t use it as much. I guess just knowing it’s there helps him feel safe. And no more waking up in the middle of the night freaked out about monsters!

It’s pretty amazing how a little creativity and a lot of understanding can make such a big difference. If you’re going through this with your kid, give some of these things a try. It might just do the trick!
