Okay, so, today I’m diving into something a bit different, something that really caught my eye, and I just had to dig deeper. I’m talking about this actor, Blu del Barrio. You might not know the name yet, but trust me, you will.

So, first off, I started where everyone starts these days – the good old internet. I just typed in “Blu del Barrio” and, boom, a whole bunch of stuff popped up. Mostly, it was all about them being in Star Trek: Discovery. I’m not a huge Trekkie, but I know it’s a big deal.
Getting to Know Blu
First thing I noticed? Blu was born in ’97. Makes me feel old! They’re from Topanga, in Southern California. Cool, right? I looked more into that, they came out as non-binary in 2019, uses they/them pronouns. Respect.
The Journey into Acting
Then, I got into their acting career. Turns out, Blu didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. They studied ballet and theater in California, and then, get this, they went all the way to the UK to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. That’s some serious dedication. I read about their roles in some plays like “The Duchess of Malfi” and “Hippolytus” at LAMDA. I mean they were playing some big parts, like Artemis!
Star Trek and Beyond
But the big thing, the thing everyone’s talking about, is their role as Adira Tal in Star Trek: Discovery. I learned that they’re the first openly non-binary actor playing a non-binary role in Star Trek. That’s huge. Breaking barriers and all that. Apparently, Adira is this super smart 16-year-old character who joins the crew of the Discovery. I really gotta watch this show now.
Just Getting Started
It seems like Blu’s just getting started, but they’ve already made a pretty big splash. They are showing everyone that you can be yourself, be successful, and change the game. So that’s my little deep dive on Blu del Barrio. Definitely someone to keep an eye on. I’m excited to see what they do next. Oh, and one more thing: I found out that Ian Alexander, another actor from The OA and The Last of Us Part II, also plays a character named Gray Tal in Star Trek: Discovery. Small world, huh?
