I got a weird thing to share today. It’s about why we sometimes feel like crap and get criticized when we first wake up in the morning. I know, it sounds like I am crazy. But trust me, I’ve been doing a little experiment on this, and I’ve got some stories to tell.

So, first off, I started by asking myself, “Why do I sometimes wake up feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck?” You know, that grumpy, irritable feeling? Yeah, that’s the one. Then I did a little digging around because I was curious about this thing. I found out that there’s a bunch of reasons why we might feel this way. It’s not just because the bed’s too comfy or the alarm clock’s too loud, haha.
Then I started observing people around me – my family, friends, even some coworkers. I’d casually ask them, “Hey, do you ever feel kinda off or criticized when you first wake up?” Most of them said “yes”, and that’s when I knew I was onto something. It seems like a lot of us feel this way, and it’s not just in my head.
Here is what I’ve been doing: every morning, right after I wake up, I grab my notebook and jot down how I’m feeling. I also note down any weird dreams I had or if I didn’t sleep well. Then, I’d ask the people I live with if they felt okay or if they felt like they were being judged for no reason. It was a bit awkward at first, but they got used to my weird morning routine.
After a few weeks of doing this, I noticed some patterns.
- Bad Sleep, Bad Mood: On days when I slept poorly, I woke up feeling grumpy and more sensitive to criticism. It’s like my brain didn’t get enough rest to deal with the world.
- Stress and Anxiety: On days when I had a lot on my mind, I noticed I’d wake up feeling anxious. And when I’m anxious, I tend to overthink things, including any comments people make. It’s like my brain is already in overdrive from the moment I open my eyes.
- Weird Dreams: Sometimes, if I had a really weird or stressful dream, I’d wake up feeling off. It’s like the emotions from the dream carried over into my waking hours. I don’t know if it happens to everyone, but it did to me.
- Others Feel It Too: Turns out, I’m not the only one who feels this way. My family and friends also reported feeling more sensitive or irritable in the morning, especially if they didn’t sleep well or had something stressing them out.
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, it seems like feeling criticized or just plain grumpy in the morning can be caused by a few things. Lack of sleep, stress, and even our dreams can mess with our morning mood. And it’s not just me – a lot of people feel this way.

I’m still doing my little morning experiment because I am interested in this stuff, and I’m curious to see what else I can find out. It’s kinda cool to see how our brains work and how different things can affect our mood. Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you all. Maybe you can relate, or maybe you think I’m just a weirdo who likes to write about his feelings in the morning. Either way, I hope you found it interesting!
